Iran cinema to expose in Spain

Week to introduce Iran cinema will be held in Santa Marta de Tormes (Saint Martha upon Tormes) in the province of Salamanca, Spain.

The event is considered an opportunity for the art-loving Spaniards to get acquainted with some of the Iranian cinematic productions.

Jointly organized by Iran cultural attaché’s office at the Iranian Embassy in Spain, and the ‘We Are Santa Marta’ association, the event kicks off today, and will last for two weeks.

The films scheduled to go on the screen during the festival are ‘A Cradle for Mother’ by Panahbarkhoda Rezaee, ‘The Painting Pool’ by Maziar Miri, which has Iranian superstar Shahab Hosseini on the cast, ‘Khoros Jangi’ by Masoud Atyabi, ‘Gold and Copper’ by Homayoun Assadian, and ‘So Close, So far’ by Reza Mirkarimi will go on the screen at the cultural center of Santa Marta.

The Spanish sponsor announced the goal of the event as displaying movies depicting the lifestyle of a nation that is different from that of the westerners’, and an introduction to the daily events from a different cinema, narrated in an attractive way.

Unlike Hollywood cinema whose films mainly deal with sexual issues and imagination, Iranian cinema highlights morality which deals with realistic subjects in the society as well as paradigms in compliance with the humanitarian values; monotheism, justice and freedom seeking are among the characteristics of the Iranian cinema, which has turned into a cultural, ethical and spiritual one in post-Revolution era.

The cinema has had over 26,000 instances of participation and competition in different international festivals and 2,500 international awards in its history, of which about 98 percent pertain to the post-Revolution period.

In view of their ancient civilizations and history, both the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kingdom of Spain have been the cradles of science and art, playing an influential and everlasting role in the history of arts in the world.

The festival is another event in an annual row of conferences, culture weeks, and cultural exchanges, aimed at the proximity of the two nations.
